I just received Marikay’s book, Soft Covers for Hard Times. In this book, she has a whole chapter about Anne Orr under the chapter heading ‘Refining the Tradition: Anne Champe Orr, 1875-1946’.
This book is predominantly about Anne Orr’s contribution to the quilt world with her designs and as a judge for several national quilt contests in the 1930’s.
In this book are three photos of Anne Orr as well as the most comprehensive biography of Anne Orr’s professional and personal life.
Anne Orr’s birth and death years that Marikay reports do not agree with what I have found in the geneology website for Anne Orr.
Aside from this discrepancy, and due to my personal research on Anne Orr, I find that Marikay Waldvogels information on Anne Orr to be the most comprehensive. It is compiled from hands-on research from numerous sources including the Nashville Library, Tennessee State Library and Archives, study of Anne Orr’s articles from Good Housekeeping magazine, quilt contest excepts, and several personal interviews with persons who had known Anne Orr.
