I think that if you follow the following directions and links you will find, that YES!!!, there is an affordable way to get even a full-color book into print and be able to make a decent profit.
Quick Overview
Step 1. Go to the CreateSpace website and create a user account
There is no cost for this, no need for a credit card, or anyother monetary outlay, no obligations to go/do anything further.

Step 2. Start a “New Title”
You must imput a name of a/your book–just make something up.
Step 3. Go to “ESTIMATE YOUR BOOKS MANUFACTURING COSTS” & Shipping Costs
It is here that you can imput and question what a book will cost based upon:
- Trim Size (the size of the book)
- B&W vs Full-Color
- Number of pages in the book.
- CreateSpace’s Shipping rates
STEP ONE
Go to: www.CreateSpace.com
Create a User Account by clicking “START A NEW TITLE FOR FREE”
The following is what you will see and be required to input.
Create a New Account
Then click: CREATE MY ACCOUNT
NOTE: Uncheck this so you don’t get anymore unwanted emails
Once you have created an account and are logged in, you will be in what is called your “MEMBER DASHBOARD”.
STEP TWO
In your Member Dashboard:
Click on “ADD A NEW TITLE”
Type in a title for ‘your book’—just make something/anything up.
You must choose the ‘type’ of project you want to do—PAPERBACK
Then click GET STARTED under the ‘Choose a Set-Up Process’—EXPERT (trust me on this one!)
Scroll down to “Physical Properties” where you will see and click on “Estimate your book’s manufacturing costs“
Note: Ignore all the things they want you to input at this time….I have outlined the bare basics to get you in as quickly/easily as possible to get your monetary questions answered.
Now we are getting to the ‘meat of the matter’, so to speak!
STEP THREE
Under “MEMBER ORDER CALCULATOR” enter in the variables that you are interested in for ‘your’ book.
INTERIOR TYPE Choose between Black & White, Black & White with Bleed, Full-Color, Full Color with Bleed.
Note: There is no price difference between With or without ‘Bleed’ in either the Black & White or the Full Color option. There IS a price difference between B&W and Full Color!
TRIM SIZE
This is the size of the book (8×10″, 8.5×11″, etc)
NUMBER OF PAGES
Minimum number of pages is 24.
Price is the same for 24-40 pages.
After 40 pages, the price goes up with every two extra pages (ca 14 cents/2 pages for a 8.5×11″ book).
Imput various numbers until you get an idea of how the size of the book affects the price of the book.
QUANTITY
Put in “1”—the price is the same whether you order 1 or a thousand copies at this point.
Cost of your book will also be determined by SHIPPING!!!!!
Under the ‘SHIPPING ORDER CALCULATOR’ click on ‘Rate Tables’ to get an idea of how shipping costs will affect your book price.
Rates are: $3.00 per order plus a cost per book.
There is a price difference here in regard to quatity of books ordered:
- 1 to 9 books—- $0.59 each
- 10-49 books—- $0.50 each
- 50+ books—— $0.40 each
