{"id":902,"date":"2014-12-23T23:13:23","date_gmt":"2014-12-23T23:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/?p=902"},"modified":"2014-12-23T23:14:50","modified_gmt":"2014-12-23T23:14:50","slug":"quilt-inspired-split-ring-tatting-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/quilt-inspired-split-ring-tatting-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Quilt-Inspired Split Ring Tatting&#8211;1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Allow me to introduce to you MY\u00a0 approach to interpreting<strong> Quilting\u00a0in Tatting:<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I have several approaches to\u00a0incoporating quilt-inspired designs into tatting, specifically Split Ring Tatting.\u00a0\u00a0 This morning I did a quick count of the pieces that I have done and I have <strong>4 distinct styles<\/strong> of <span style=\"color: #33cccc;\"><strong>Quilt-Inspired Tatting Designs.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The design-type that I am finishing up at the end of this year is what I call my <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">&#8220;Patchwork Series&#8221;.\u00a0<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Patchwork Quilt is created by sewing together smaller &#8216;pieces&#8217; of fabric into a larger &#8216;block&#8217; of fabric to create a basic design unit.\u00a0 Historically the different &#8216;blocks&#8217; had names that date back to pioneer days.<\/p>\n<p>To recreate quilt blocks in my<strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"> Tatted Patchwork Series<\/span><\/strong>, I use\u00a0&#8216;square-rings&#8217; <em>(a term coined by another designer to designate rings created with 4 DS, picot, 4 DS, picot, 4 DS, picot, 4 DS)<\/em>\u00a0created using<em>\u00a0<\/em>Split Ring Tatting technique to &#8216;stack&#8217; them one upon another, in right angles to one another, \u00a0to form a &#8216;piece&#8217;.\u00a0 Then the <strong>&#8216;pieces&#8217;<\/strong> <em>(in different colors)<\/em> are joined together to form<strong> &#8216;blocks&#8217;<\/strong>.\u00a0 I have been studying historical quilt blocks (the fabric kind) to discern the pattern of the block and then creating my own &#8216;pieces&#8217; and &#8216;blocks&#8217;.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_925\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-925\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/DSCN1433.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-925 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/DSCN1433-e1418681300752-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/DSCN1433-e1418681300752-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/DSCN1433-e1418681300752-1024x639.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-925\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PATCHWORK Tatted Quilt Designs: L&#8211;&#8216;Double Pinwheel&#8217;, R&#8211;&#8216;Weathervane&#8217;.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The two tatted blocks above are the two that I have done (tatted)&#8211;<em>not finished nor blocked!\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ffcc00;\">Yikes&#8212;I really need to work on my photography skills!<\/span><\/em><br \/>\nDon&#8217;t be too daunted by the all the ends that will need to be finished <em>(at least 2 per &#8216;block&#8217;)<\/em>&#8212;they can be brought to the back of a piece of fabric and tied off, concealing the ends.\u00a0 More about that later!!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Allow me to introduce to you MY\u00a0 approach to interpreting Quilting\u00a0in Tatting: I have several approaches to\u00a0incoporating quilt-inspired designs into tatting, specifically Split Ring Tatting.\u00a0\u00a0 This morning I did a quick count of the pieces that I have done and I have 4 distinct styles of Quilt-Inspired Tatting Designs.
