{"id":2367,"date":"2017-06-01T15:32:09","date_gmt":"2017-06-01T15:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/?p=2367"},"modified":"2017-06-01T21:03:51","modified_gmt":"2017-06-01T21:03:51","slug":"shuttlebirds-tatting-workshop-part-2-my-life-style-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/shuttlebirds-tatting-workshop-part-2-my-life-style-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Shuttlebirds Tatting Workshop&#8211;Part 2 &#038; my life-style change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>SHUTTLEBIRDS WORKSHOP&#8211;PART 2<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Just thought I&#8217;d post some of the pictures I had taken at The Shuttlebirds 2017 Tatting Workshop.<\/p>\n<p>The first photo shows the materials and space we used to decorate the base shuttles for the Make-It-Take-It workshop of creating personal glass\/enamel tatting shuttles. (See previous post for photos of the finished ART pieces.)<\/p>\n<p>The second photo shows the space where\/how I torch-fired the artwork into finished glass-coated tatting shuttles in flat\/hoare-style.<\/p>\n<p>I flew to the workshop so it was quite a challenge as to what to bring\/how much I could bring.\u00a0 I planned and purchased supplies for months before going.\u00a0 There were a few items that the Shuttlebirds members brought for me to help with my space\/luggage issues.\u00a0 These included the cookies sheets, ceramic tiles and fire extinquisher.\u00a0 I am happy to report that I did NOT need to use the fire extinquisher (I actually never have!).<\/p>\n<p>The third photo shows my vendor table:\u00a0 It includes the 7 books that I have authored\/published including the debut of book number 7:\u00a0 <em><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Snowflakes in Split Ring Tatting<\/span>.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 I had been working on the designs for this book for a while (ca. a year).\u00a0 So when I found out that the theme for this workshop was &#8216;A Flurry of Flakes&#8217; I decided that it was a &#8216;sign from God&#8217; that I should try to attend.\u00a0 So I used the workshop as a self-inflicted deadline to get my book done and published.\u00a0 Also on my vendor table are some of my glass\/enameled tatting shuttles and some homemade &#8216;thread holders&#8217;. (The fire extinguisher did not need to be used!!!)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2370\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2370\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/DSCN0586.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2370 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/DSCN0586-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN0586\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/DSCN0586-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/DSCN0586-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/DSCN0586-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2370\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My vendor space&#8211;my seven books on split ring tatting technique and designs, my glass enameled shuttles, and handmade &#8216;thread-winders&#8217; (see them soon on my Etsy store).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">LIFE-STYLE CHANGE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Right now, my life is a bit in &#8216;limbo&#8217; because I am moving&#8211;leaving my home of 31 years.\u00a0 I got fed up with the high property taxes in Omaha, Nebraska and so my husband and I bought an acreage across the river in neighboring Council Bluffs, Iowa.\u00a0 I am no longer going to be a Nebraskan\/Husker but will soon become a Iowegian\/Hawkeye.\u00a0 <em>(I much prefer yellow to red!).<\/em>\u00a0 Right now my life is a mess!\u00a0 I have just finished getting rid of and\/or moving the majority of my stuff to the new house.\u00a0 Now I am seriously trying to clean\/paint\/prep the old house to get it ready to sell.\u00a0 At the same time we have some work to do at the new house.\u00a0 I have 2 big lawns to move and work on the landscaping at the same time!\u00a0 Half my &#8216;living stuff&#8217; is at either house.\u00a0 I am keeping my furniture at the old house to &#8216;stage it&#8217; for selling.\u00a0 Husband is living at the new house working on prepping it for our use.\u00a0 We have new furniture on order.\u00a0 So far he has had to install 2 separate garage door systems and tear out a closet in our master bedroom so that we can fit our (king-size) bed into it.\u00a0 When I sell my old house I can move all the furniture and clothes into the new house and live there completely.\u00a0 I have all of my studio stuff in boxes and am dying to get back to making enamel shuttles again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SHUTTLEBIRDS WORKSHOP&#8211;PART 2 Just thought I&#8217;d post some of the pictures I had taken at The Shuttlebirds 2017 Tatting Workshop.
