{"id":1151,"date":"2015-08-27T21:22:48","date_gmt":"2015-08-27T21:22:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/?p=1151"},"modified":"2015-08-27T21:22:48","modified_gmt":"2015-08-27T21:22:48","slug":"padded-split-ring-tatting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/padded-split-ring-tatting\/","title":{"rendered":"Padded Split Ring Tatting"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_1149\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1149\" style=\"width: 271px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Quilt-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1149 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Quilt-2.jpg\" alt=\"Quilt 2\" width=\"271\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Quilt-2.jpg 271w, https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Quilt-2-170x300.jpg 170w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 271px) 100vw, 271px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1149\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Padded Split Ring Tatting Motifs&#8212;Top: Pinwheel; Bottom: Rail Fence<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>These are the motifs I designed and used for the recent IOLI Convention &#8220;<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><em><strong>Quilt-Inspired Fun with Split Ring Tatting<\/strong><\/em><\/span>&#8221; class I taught the end of July in Iowa City.<\/p>\n<p>I used these two motifs as the &#8216;challenge-project&#8217; because they incorporated using Padded Tatting Technique with Split Ring Tatting Technique.<\/p>\n<p>In <em><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Padded-Split Ring Tatting <\/span><\/strong><\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">there is a primary color\/row in which you use two shuttles of thread of the same color and create the row with split rings.\u00a0 The secondary color is carried along\u00a0 (&#8216;Padded&#8217;) inside the primary color stitches until it is needed and then is used to create a &#8216;Take-Off&#8217; ring (as a regularly-tatted ring).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Pinwheel motif<\/strong><\/span>, each of the six rounds is done using 2 shuttle of the primary color (either red or blue) and one shuttle of the yellow that is carried along (&#8216;padded&#8217;)\u00a0inside the primary colored\u00a0split rings.<\/p>\n<p>In the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Rail Fence motif<\/strong><\/span>, the piece is completed in two rounds:\u00a0 Round 1&#8212;Yellow &amp; Gray;\u00a0 Round 2&#8212;Blue &amp; Black.\u00a0 In Round 1, the Yellow is the primary color (2 shuttles=Split Rings) and the gray creates the &#8216;padded&#8217; rings.\u00a0 In Round 2, the Black is the primary color (2 shuttle=Split Rings) and the blue\u00a0creates the &#8216;Padded&#8217; rings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These are the motifs I designed and used for the recent IOLI Convention &#8220;Quilt-Inspired Fun with Split Ring Tatting&#8221; class I taught the end of July in Iowa City.
