{"id":1116,"date":"2015-02-16T21:32:30","date_gmt":"2015-02-16T21:32:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/?p=1116"},"modified":"2015-02-16T21:34:57","modified_gmt":"2015-02-16T21:34:57","slug":"another-tatting-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/another-tatting-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Another Tatting Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I spent a recent weekend on a mini vacation to Des Moines, Iowa which is about 150 miles away from Omaha, Nebraska <em>(where I live<\/em>) with my husband and another couple.\u00a0 The theme of the weekend was primarily <strong>Blues<\/strong> (music) as it was the Central Iowa Blues Society festival in which they had 12 different regional blues bands on 7 stages throughout Saturday night.\u00a0 The secondary theme of the weekend however was <strong>Beer<\/strong>.\u00a0 Our friends are really interested in craft beers and I have to admit, I am too!\u00a0 So we went to Des Moines a day early to explore the restaurants and bars downtown before the Blues festival started.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1119\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1119\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSCN1673.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1119\" src=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSCN1673-e1424119701869-300x259.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN1673\" width=\"150\" height=\"130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSCN1673-e1424119701869-300x259.jpg 300w, https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSCN1673-e1424119701869-1024x887.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1119\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">LIfe is Good! A dark beer &amp; bacon-wrapped, jalapeno tater tots smothered in cheese dipped in ranch dressing!!!! Best thing ever!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I discovered probably the <em><strong>best thing I have ever eaten:<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0\u00a0 tator tots with jalapeno (<em>just a little<\/em>) wrapped in bacon and deep-fried, then covered in cheddar cheese with ranch dressing to dip in at a unique bar called El Bait.\u00a0 It had over 100 beers (<em>good ones!)<\/em> on tap.\u00a0 The atmoshere was fun.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1121\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1121\" style=\"width: 159px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSCN16771.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1121\" src=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSCN16771-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN1677\" width=\"159\" height=\"99\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1121\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The ShuttleSmith and husband unit at Iowa &#8216;English pub&#8217;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We ate at a German restaurant (German beer was consumed) and later hung out at at lounge that looked like a English pub (British beer was consumed).\u00a0 The blues venue was great&#8230;.we heard alot of great music.<\/p>\n<p>However, the weekend had a\u00a0new\u00a0theme when a snowstorm\/blizzard came through the region.\u00a0 It started snowing Saturday afternoon and continued until Sunday afternoon.\u00a0 We knew that the roads were terrible all the way home, so we decided to stay put in our cushy hotel and stay an extra day.\u00a0 Soooo on Sunday the theme was <strong>snow &amp; tatting.\u00a0 <\/strong>When my three comrades decided to spend their Sunday afternoon napping, I grabbed my tatting and went down to the hotel lobby to watch people, the snow and tat.\u00a0 I met a woman who was a knitter\/quilter and got her excited about tatting.\u00a0 I even pulled out a tapestry needle I have in my tatting bag (<em>that I use to sew-in thread ends<\/em>) to give an impromptu lesson on how easy it is to needle tat.\u00a0 I happened to have a copy of Handy Hands catalog and so I pulled out the &#8216;how to needle-tat&#8217;
