{"id":1030,"date":"2015-01-23T22:08:22","date_gmt":"2015-01-23T22:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/?p=1030"},"modified":"2015-01-23T22:08:22","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T22:08:22","slug":"interesting-fiber-art-exhibits-in-denver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/interesting-fiber-art-exhibits-in-denver\/","title":{"rendered":"Interesting Fiber Art Exhibits in Denver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My daughter and I decided that after 3 days of moving her into her new apartment in Denver that we would take one day to sightsee around Denver.<\/p>\n<p>We went to a really wonderful neighborhood on Broadway that had alot of great antique, thrift and other stores.\u00a0 We ate at an Argentinian cafe called Maria Empanada, which I highly recommend&#8211;<em>the mushroom torta is &#8216;to die for&#8217;<\/em>.\u00a0 While in the Broadway neighborhood I saw my first &#8216;yarn-bombing&#8217;&#8211;a bicycle rack covered in knitted and crocheted squares.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">According to Wikipedia<\/span>:\u00a0 Yarn bombing, yarnbombing, yarn storming, guerrilla knitting, kniffiti, urban knitting or graffiti knitting is a type of <a title=\"Graffiti\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Graffiti\">graffiti<\/a> or <a title=\"Street art\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Street_art\">street art<\/a> that employs colourful displays of <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Knitted\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Knitted\">knitted<\/a> or <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Crocheted\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crocheted\">crocheted<\/a> yarn or fibre rather than paint or chalk.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_992\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-992\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCN1580.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-992 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCN1580-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"DSCN1580\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCN1580-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/survivalarchitecture.com\/shuttlesmithblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/DSCN1580-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-992\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DD behind a &#8216;Yarn-bombed&#8217; collected from the community\u00a0along \u00a0with stories about the blankets meaning and memories to the owner.\u00a0\u00a0 Each blanket has a tag attached to it with its &#8216;story&#8217;.\u00a0\u00a0 The stories were published in a book<em> (one was located next to the exhibit).\u00a0<\/em> The blankets were stacked<em> (quite high<\/em>) to become part of a permanent artwork and blanket story column installed in the\u00a0American Indian art gallery.\u00a0 The artist&#8217;s (Marie Watt) work is centered\u00a0around community, particularly through her use of wool blankets.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><em>Wouldn&#8217;t this be an interesting way to accumulate other fiber art pieces such as lace, doilies, dish towels, etc. to preserve historical memories to bygone times?!?!?!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My daughter and I decided that after 3 days of moving her into her new apartment in Denver that we would take one day to sightsee around Denver.
